In a Facebook post on May 9, 2025, 8K Expeditions founder Lakpa Sherpa announced that the summit route on Mount Everest (8,848.86 m) is now officially open for the spring 2025 climbing season.
He said an experienced team of Sherpa climbers had fixed ropes all the way to the summit, clearing the path for hundreds of climbers to begin their summit bids. The Sherpa team reached the peak late that afternoon, marking the first successful ascent of the season.
Experienced Sherpa Team Secures Route
Under the coordination of the Expedition Operators Association of Nepal (EOA), an experienced rope-fixing crew from 8K Expeditions installed fixed lines on Everest’s South Col route. The team was led by veteran Sherpa Ang Temba (head guide) and included IFMGA-certified guide Tsering Pemba Sherpa, aspirant guide Ashok Lama, and Sherpas Pem Nurbu, Tashi Sherpa (Chitra), Karma Gyaljen, Tashi Gyalzen and Pas Tenzi. Each of these climbers has years of high-altitude experience, and together they officially opened the way to Everest’s summit.
